Day 5

WOW! We have a busy, exciting day today!! We are going to be picked up at our hotel and taken to the Swamps!! The Honey Island Swamp Tour is home to alligators, raccoons, owls, wild boars, nutria, snakes, turtles, bald eagles, black bears, and many birds. Recently there has been talk of an ivory billed woodpecker sighting, previously believed to be extinct. Cajun Encounters uses smaller boats that accommodate up to 24 passengers to allow for a more quiet and up-close experience. With vast knowledge of the swamp and the wildlife, we can weave you through the back bayous for a real Cajun experience. This is a two hour tour. When we arrive back in New Orleans, they will drop us off at the Court of Two Sisters for their Jazz Lunchean. But we are not done yet, Cajun Encounters will pick us up at the restaurant and take us on a City tour of New Orleans. Our tour begins at the birthplace of New Orleans, the French Quarter. As we ride through the Quarter they will be telling you the history of the city, point out many locally known and loved highlights along the way including Jackson Square, the Cathedral and our famous French Quarter balconies. Leaving the French Quarter, we will travel creole Esplanade Avenue to the “City of the Dead”. See the graves of St. Louis Cemetery up close. City Park and its dueling oaks are our next stop. Along the way we will also see some of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. From there we head to the "American Sector", the New Orleans Garden District. Alive and well with its live-oak tree lined St. Charles Avenue, you will get a great sense of the luxury and extravagance of old New Orleans. This is a true step back into the antebellum era, with highlights including the former homes of author Anne Rice. The New Orleans Warehouse & Arts District is the final leg of your New Orleans overview. This evening..take a ride on the St Charles Trolley or visit Harrah’s Casino Enjoy your last night in New Orleans!! BL
