Day 1
Tuesday, Sept 29
This is the first day of our “Land of Enchantment Adventure”. We will be traveling through IL and MO. The Holiday Inn Express in Liberty, MO will be our home the first night out. (C,B)
Day 2
Wednesday, Sept. 30
Before departing Kansas City area, we will make a stop at the Arabia Steamboat Museum. This steamboat, which sank in the Missouri River in 1856, has numerous exhibits dedicated to frontier life. This is one of the most interesting museums I’ve visited containing everything from buttons to shoes. The flat lands of Kansas will make for smooth driving as we head for Burlington, CO and the Comfort Inn for the night. . (B)
Day 3
Thursday, Oct. 1
Traveling through Colorado is a beautiful drive on our way to Santa Fe, NM. We will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Santa Fe.. (B)
Day 4
Friday, Oct. 2
We will meet our step-on guide this morning for a tour of Santa Fe. We will begin our tour at the State Capital building for a driving tour of the city, Loretto Chapel Museum where the miraculous staircase is located, ending at that Santa Fe Plaza. After a walking tour and orientation of Santa Fe Plaza restaurants, shops and museums, you will be free to enjoy some free time. We will depart Santa Fe late afternoon to head for Albuquerque to the Route 66 Hotel and Casino for the next 3 nights. Route 66 is home to 1600 slots, table games and bingo, 3 restaurants and plenty of action. This evening your dinner will be included at the Buffet 66 which includes Asian, BBQ, Mediterranean, Southwest and the International Grill. (B,D)
Day 5
Saturday, Oct. 3
The home of one of largest hot air balloon displays is in Albuquerque, NM. We will experience hundreds of balloons, great food and much more. But first we will meet with our step-on guide for an enlightening tour of Albuquerque and Old Town. Following our tour, we will visit the Turquoise Museum and enjoy a humorous seminar by Joe Dan. Then a little free time in Old Town to shop and explore. We will then head back to our hotel, Route 66 Hotel and Casino for the night. Your dinner will be the Steak Buffet tonight!! (B,L,D)
Day 6
Sunday, Oct. 4
This morning we will see the Mass Ascension of balloons and more. Experience the pre-dawn Ceremonies and the unforgettable Mass Ascension of hundreds of hot air balloons, turning the sky into a rainbow of colors. Our motorcoach will have front row parking, making it easy for you to walk and explore the fields of balloons. But bring a lawn chair!! Just sit down and watch all the action happening right in front of you in our special reserved seating area. Late morning we will depart the balloon grounds and return to the hotel for some much needed rest and a wonderful Sunday Brunch!! We return to the Balloon field this evening to watch the Twilight Twinkle Evening Glo is one of the most anticipated events. Just before dusk, balloons are tethered and inflated. The balloonmeister then orders ignition and burners fill the balloons and the sky with a kaleidoscope of brilliant colors. All of this is topped off by their fabulous fireworks show. (B,L)
Day 7
Monday, Oct. 5
We depart Albuquerque and journey on to Oklahoma City, OK. We will stop in Amarillo at the Big Texan, home of the World Famous 72-oz steak. If you can eat it all in one hour.......it’s free!!!! We will have lunch and enjoy this now famous stop along the old Route 66. We will continue on to Oklahoma City at the Holiday Inn for the night. (B,L)
Day 8
Tuesday, Oct. 6
The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum will be our destination this morning. The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is America’s premier institution of Western history, art and culture. The Museum includes three Halls of Fame, including The Hall of Great Westerners for actual people who lived through the frontier era to present. Other halls include the Hall of Great Western Performers, for actors only, and the Rodeo Hall of Fame, along with some beautiful art collections. Lunch will be at your leisure in the museum before heading on to Springfield, MO and Drury Inn for the night. (B)
Day 9
Wednesday, Oct. 7
We are going to discover the timeless beauty of Fantastic Caverns this morning. You will discover natures wonders in giant columns stretching from floor to ceiling, delicate soda straws glistening with minerals, tiny cave pearls hidden in crystal-clear water and the best part of it all.......it’s from the comfort of a jeep-drawn tram!!!! And all of this is at America’s only ride-thru Cave in Springfield, MO. We will stop for lunch at the Sirloin Stockade in Rolla, MO with a stop at the Russell Stover Candy Outlet Store in Lincoln, IL. Arriving back early evening. (B,L)
